Haesol and Liam’s Multicultural Art Deco Wedding

An art deco wedding at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, NY inspired by his love of history and her love of glamour!

Bridechilla Graduate, Haesol, shares her and Liam's art deco wedding and traditional Korean Pyebaek Ceremony. Their all inclusive, country club wedding is a glamorous Chilla's dream come true!

Haesol: We met on okcupid in the very early days of online dating! Our first date was MoMA and BBQ and we just clicked. And now 8 years later, 2 apartments, 2 dogs, we finally made it official in front of all of our friends, family, and a bunch of my parents' friends that we don't really know.

Tell us about your Wedding!

We just naturally gravitated towards Art Deco. We love the art, architecture, music, and overall style of that period and once we decided on the invitations it all kind of fell into place. It was the focal point of our inspiration. We even hired an amazing 7 piece Jazz band! It was one of the splurges and absolutely worth it!

We didn't do a lot of DIY, because for a large wedding, form follows function. So it was more about strategizing what works for 250 people rather than going crazy for custom gifts for guests. But we did design our seating chart and photo booth frames together! Liam has experience working with graphics and we collaborated together to make our own and they came out perfect!

Another random splurge were our dogs' outfits! We wanted both of our dogs to be a part of our wedding and be dressed to match the wedding party! We got Scotty's tux online, but had it altered to fit him perfectly and then we had a custom dress made for Kiki , complete with Swarovski crystal accents. Because nothing is too good for baby!

Thankfully we had Aleisha whispering in Haesol's ear throughout the entire process and she was more than happy to throw a lot of things into the FIB to make the wedding planning process much easier. Our biggest priority was to just have a really great party that everyone can enjoy and it really was. Honestly, we both had such a good time and we couldn't believe that all the things that people say about it are so true. Like everything you thought was such a big deal, is not a big deal at all. And the whole day does fly by you so fast!

What did you throw in the Fuck It Bucket?

It wasn't so much about throwing stuff out in the FIB before the wedding, as much as throwing stuff out on the day of. For example, we said no kids, but there were a couple of kids there. We could've let little things like that ruin our day but why would you? Who cares? It doesn't matter!

What advice do you have for other couples planning their weddings?

Don't stress out about the little things. Don't cry over flowers, don't cry over rain. That's not what 'ruins' a day. Only you can ruin your day.

How did Bridechilla help you plan your wedding?

EVERYTHING. I really didn't want to be that person who is constantly having verbal diarrhea about wedding stuff so having the facebook group was really helpful for getting all of it out of my system without exhausting everyone around me! Obviously FIB is essential but just constantly getting reinforced that you don't have to think everything is crucially important, was really comforting.
