Mekensey: Chris and I met in 2014 through the OKCupid dating site. Chris messaged me the first day he had made his profile, while I had been on for a few months. We had a 10% match because Chris hadn't filled out many questions before he messaged me. I thought he was a cute nerd from the one photo he had posted so I messaged him back! We chatted for about a week and decided to meet. We also discovered we lived three minutes from one another! Our first official date was only a few days later. We went to the drive in movie theater to see The Lego movie. Fast forward to February 2017. He proposed at the same drive in theater while we were seeing The Lego Batman movie! Oh yeah, and my engagement ring is a Star Trek ring!
As you may have guessed we are big ol' nerds so naturally we will be having a Star Wars wedding at the Orlando Science Center on May 4th 2019. We have been very lucky to have wonderful families who are not shutting down our more non traditional things we want for our wedding. We are very non formal so we would like to have our wedding be more laid back. We will be adding a lot of Star Wars touches into our whole day. Our centerpiece will be stormtrooper helmets I have painted to our colors. We are planning to incorporate lots of Star Wars music as well and many other things such as themed bouquets and boutonnieres. We may even have a Star Wars unity ceremony. Our wedding also happens to fall on free comic book day. I have begun making comic book flowers to add in somewhere. Time will tell!
Our engagement photos took place at a movie theater. Movies obviously mean a lot to us and we majorly bonded over them in the beginning of our relationship but I think they are one thing that will always connect us. The first day Chris and I met we went to a movie and after that he invited me over to show off his extensive nerd and film collection which immediately showed how much we had in common. It had been a dream of mine to have photos like these done and I am so happy that I found someone who loved the idea as much as I did a well as an awesome photographer who stepped away from the norm to make it happen for us!
So far my favorite part of wedding planning is all the DIY I have been doing. I love a good project! Like a mentioned before I am creating the stormtrooper centerpieces. I will also be making the favors, invitations, bouquets/ boutonnieres and probably more things that I haven't thought of yet...
We have quite a few things going in the fuck it bucket! We will not be having a flower girl/ring bearer. If grandmas are willing we may have flower grandmas. We also won't be having kids under 13 at the wedding. We will be skipping the garter toss and most likely the flower toss as well. I'd rather enjoy our time partying with everyone. I also don't like a lot of attention on me which I know won't be avoided but leaving these things out will help I think. We will not be having a cake, just donuts. So excited about that and it will save us a lot of money. No cake cutting fee! We won't be sending Save the Dates or just sending them digitally as well as skipping programs at the ceremony. I will probably do a frame on an easel with the wedding party and info at the entrance to the ceremony room so people aren't completely lost on who is standing in front of them. As the day gets closer more things will probably fall into the bucket.
