Love is love, a Modern Same-Sex Raleigh Wedding

by Aleisha February 12, 2019

Love is love, a Modern, Same-Sex Raleigh Wedding

Planner Kaitlin Stammetti from Rowan Lane Events shares her design inspiration behind a recent styled shoot that was created to celebrate support the ethos of 'love is love' and the LGBTQ community in Raleigh, North Carolina.

What inspired the shoot?

Raleigh is a special and exciting city. As a big swath of blue in a mostly red state, the capital of North Carolina is home to everything from the Governor's Mansion and NC Museums of Natural Sciences to the annual Hopscotch Music Festival and tons of conventions at our amazing convention center.

But even in this liberal-leaning capitol city we still encounter those who, sadly, aren't supportive of the LGBTQ community and their rights. In an effort to show that Raleigh wedding vendors overwhelmingly support the notion that "love is love" a local officiant asked a simple question on a local wedding vendor facebook page - "who would like to do a same-sex styled shoot?"

I am proud to say the response was enormous! So much so that we actually ended up producing 7 different shoots - each with their own team of planners, photographers, venues, cake makers etc. I had personally decided to sit out any more shoots this year but when this came across my feed I couldn't stay away.

Red and blue as a symbolic theme to the shoot

I had the perfect models in mind! I brought my husband's cousin and her partner in as our real couple and chose blue as our main color to represent the bright blue of Raleigh in a sea of political red.

Our venue, The Cannon Room, is positioned in the heart of our vibrant and growing downtown and is flooded with light which makes it an irresistible spot for photos.

A Simple, clean and modern style

I wanted to show that weddings don't have to be over the top to be special so we stayed simple, clean, and modern as we let the table top be our main focal point.

Our couple was another main focus and highlight as they were as unique and lovely as the space or any of our decor pieces.

We chose to skip the sweetheart or head table and focus on the ceremony space, dinner dining set up and of course, the bar!

Cherishing the most important part of the day, the ceremony

I think my favorite pictures of the day are from the ceremony. This part of the day that is often rushed but I encourage my clients and their bridal party to really cherish it. Those two aren't the only ones standing up that day to make a crazy promise to love each other.

They have all gathered to support them in their desire and adventure to put their marriage above all else and nothing is lovelier to me.

A Joyful, Modern Christmas Wedding Photoshoot

by Aleisha December 25, 2018
written by Aleisha

Remy: This styled shoot is sure to spark those romantic and wintery wedding ideas for any couple who wants to have a classy, modern, and bold holiday wedding.

The vendors who helped on this shoot are in many ways the "dream team" of Richmond, VA because they all bring something beautiful and exciting to the table when they start planning for a styled shoot. Between the stunning floral designs of the ceremony location, the flower arrangements, the table settings, the bold red cake, and the couple that has an unstoppable chemistry, you are going to want to have yourself a holiday wedding for yourself!

The couple just recently got engaged in real life and it's easy to see that they are madly in love and have a very special, deep connection. Lindsey and her family are going through a tough time while her mother battles cancer. Peyton is there, loving and supporting her during this hard time. I admire their relationship and chose them to be my couple because I wanted them to experience something exciting together during this time of their engagement. I wanted them to have these pictures to remember and celebrate this time of their lives even when life gets scary.

Jilted: A Bridal Nightmare – Halloween Wedding Photoshoot

by Aleisha October 31, 2018
written by Aleisha

JILTED: A Bridal Nightmare

Poem & Concept by Nina McKaskey of Wedded Kiss

Let's get spooky up in here with a Halloween wedding photoshoot! This styled shoot tells the  story of a bride left at the altar... but what has happened to her groom? Will true love win, or is it all a waking nightmare?

On this bleak cold Autumn day
A lovely bride was led astray
For, on this day, she was to wed
Now head held low, no vows were said
The bridegroom nowhere to be found
She fell upon the hallowed ground
She ran to the site of their first kiss
Where their true love had blossomed hence
And there he stood, she ran to his side
But he was transformed, his warmth had died
His eyes now filled with twilight glow
Would he stay? Only the moon could know.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Cozy Fall Family Style Wedding Inspiration

by Aleisha October 16, 2018
written by Aleisha

Cozy, family style wedding inspiration for fall. Bring family and friends together over good food, great company, and spiked coffees.

Photographer, Krishna Sutherland, shares this bold, fall-inspired styled shoot perfect for lovers of pumpkin spice and cozy sweaters... and its anything but basic!

Krishna: Our goal was to combine a romantic fall look & add a cozy family style feel throughout. We chose a bold seasonal color palette of teal, raspberry, burnt orange & burgundy to tie together the floral designs and tablescapes.

For this styled shoot I was inspired by my love for the fall & obsession for bright beautiful colors. The changing of the seasons brings in some amazing deep colors but I always love that pop of bright color in the distance! The fall season also brings one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving, gathering families all together. We wanted to communicate that cozy feeling of home through our designs.

Otherworldly Gem & Galaxy Wedding Inspiration

by Aleisha October 9, 2018
written by Aleisha

An other-worldly wedding photoshoot inspired by the cosmos and crystals featuring a hand-made galaxy dyed veil and tie, raw crystal accents and some quirky accessories.

Photographer, Mary Slinger-Carreer, of We Choose the Moon Photography shared this unique, offbeat wedding inspiration photoshoot.

Mary: Our theme came  to life after I found a DIY tutorial on how to dip dye a veil. I was amazed at how easy and stunning the veil was. Additionally, I thought it was a brilliant idea for brides who aren’t into all white to add some color to their bridal look. Around that same time, I stumbled across a tutorial on youtube on how to to tie-dye a shirt to look like a galaxy. I married the two ideas together and decided to tie-dye a galaxy veil.

I didn't want it to look like an outer space birthday party, so I decided to keep the galaxy patterns to a minimum; only the veil and the groom’s tie, but I carried the color palette throughout the rest of the inspiration. Iridescent finishes and raw crystals were the perfect complement to the galaxy inspiration, including iridescent flatware and champagne flutes with stoneware plates and raw crystals on the cake. I also specifically picked a very rocky location to give it a slightly more “other worldly” vibe.

A Modern, Citrus Inspired Wedding Photoshoot in Mesa, AZ

by Aleisha September 13, 2018
written by Aleisha
Modern Citrus Inspired Wedding Photoshoot by Sara Bishop Photography at Gather Estate in Mesa, AZ | Bridechilla Wedding Planning | www.thebridechilla.com

Modern, citrus inspired details to steal for your al fresco wedding.

This sunny, citrus inspired wedding editorial is what Bridechilla dreams are made of. Modern, with pops of sunny color, and whimsical details set the stage for an intimate ceremony and al fresco, backyard inspired reception. And most importantly, full of ideas for you to steal for your own wedding!

Gather Estate is a vintage home in Mesa, Arizona that sits in on a citrus grove. Emerald green grass, peach fluffy blooms, and modern touches of matte black, grey, and white made for a chic and citrus wedding inspiration. Arizona citrus season is fall and winter, making this the perfect style and inspiration for this vintage orange grove home.

Showcasing the couple's personality and aesthetic through the event details was a priority. From the bride's pixie cut to the to the organic, hand tied bouquet, the goal was to exude elegance, fun, and genuine moments.

The floral designs introduce color and texture while still maintaining a more minimalist, natural vibe with a focus on greenery and pops of color.

The design team designed in a citrus inspired palette and worked to conceptualize a wedding design that could be in any couple's backyard. Bringing home to the wedding design, this inspiration feels like you are stepping out into your own cozy yard for your happily ever after.

Fresh oranges and kumquats were used in the design to carry the citrus inspired wedding details into the table styling. Fresh blackberries were used to bring in the darker colors of the palette and accent the bold, modern cake design.

Through The Looking Glass Garden Wedding

by Aleisha August 4, 2018
written by Aleisha

It all started with a dress. We fell in love with Renegade Bridal's “Lindsay” gown. We were so inspired by this gown that we knew we had to use it in an innovative and refreshing way. We were dreaming of a perfectly pink, whimsical, refreshing inspiration shoot.

We started showing “Lindsay” off to many of our vendor friends and we knew we wanted to work with people who were just as inspired as we were. Somehow, this pretty little number nestled it’s way into all of our hearts and created this rare form of magic. The magic grew and grew.

Our shoot seemed to take on a life of it’s own and evolved right before our eyes. We started referring to it as our “Through the looking glass” shoot, as a little nod to “Alice In Wonderland.” Like Alice, it grew and evolved so much throughout the planning process. Before long, we had a cake that matched the print of the gown, Alice In Wonderland inspired treats, paper cranes, paper lanterns and collectable rabbits involved in the shoot.

Everyone’s heart became intertwined in this day and it quickly became very personal for each and every one of us that there were. Now, there is something to be said about working with vendors that share the same vision as you. Since it was so near and dear to each of our hearts, the enthusiasm of the day was absolutely infectious. Even the stifling Texas heat didn’t slow anyone down! We are so grateful to be friends with so many amazing vendors who share our visions!

Dreamy Garden Wedding Inspiration in the Desert Southwest

Dreamy Garden Wedding Inspiration in the Desert Southwest

SIERRA VISTA HOUSE - PHOENIX, AZ

This dreamy garden wedding inspiration is hardly what we expect to see from our wonderful Bridechilla wedding professionals in the Southwest US, but today the team headed up by Moelleux Events and Sara Bishop Photography have brought us just that!

The Sierra Vista House at The Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, Arizona is a quaint historic house surrounded by a lush, green lawn and garden. Truly a hidden gem in Phoenix where outdoor wedding venues are most often ranches or desert landscapes. Sierra Vista House with is hedges and flowers, palms and eucalyptus trees provide a sweet backdrop for your secret garden inspired wedding.

The creative team behind this garden wedding inspiration decided to highlight and amplify the lushness of the Sierra Vista House property, lining the pathways with greenery, juicy roses, and hydrangeas, and the creation of a whimsical hanging floral installation.

The ethereal floral vibes were carried into the gown worn by the bride and the bouquet she carried as well. A color palette of soft white, blush, and fuchsia celebrates the change of season and the spring blooms throughout the Sierra Vista House and gardens. Her dramatic, cathedral length veil added drama and brought a hint of the traditional to her otherwise modern gown. The groom wore a classic, fitted black tux, another nod to black tie style and glamour.

Their design blends a historic space with a glamorous, modern design, and classic attire with some playful twists. Take a look through the gallery and don't forget to check out the amazing team of wedding professionals who made it possible after the photos!

Ashley & Nick’s Eclectic, Boho Outdoor Wedding Vow Renewal

by Aleisha September 30, 2017
written by Aleisha

Ashley & Nick celebrated their 3rd anniversary with an eclectic, boho outdoor wedding vow renewal styled by some of their friends in the wedding industry!

This inspiration photo shoot was organized by the wedding planning blog, Secularly Wed. A blog created by Erica Greenwold Reisen to help couples plan meaningful non-religious weddings and examine the traditions and cultural issues regarding religion and marriage. Ashley & Nick are good friends with one of the lead photographers, Ana Teresa, and had even already appeared on the Secularly Wed blog. So when it came time to plan this photoshoot, they were the first call!

When Ashely and Nick were asked to model for the photoshoot, they realized it would be the same weekend as their anniversary. So in secret, they planned a surprise Vow Renewal to happen at the photoshoot! Two of their best friends (the "Bridesmaids") were in on the surprise and one of them even officiated the Vow Renewal ceremony!

Most of the vendors who collaborated on this shoot are also members of the Secularly Wed Community. They are dedicated to helping couples have unique meaningful weddings, based on their values and personal beliefs, and not just what our culture or traditions dictate.

Inspired by the colors and mission of Secularly Wed, Erica wanted to showcase ways of rethinking trends. Mixing modern and antique, unique floral elements, crystals and geometric shapes paired with softer organic elements. The goal was to create a visual representation of what Secularly Wed and its couples are all about. Examining traditions and trends and only keeping what works for the couple.

The venue, McDonald Artisan Farm is managed by Kate Mangum, a fellow Bridechilla! The Farm regularly hosts festivals and fairs, so making the shift to hosting weddings was something Kate has been wanting to do, starting with her own wedding in October 2017! The rustic feel of the venue, as well as its community roots set the stage for the down to earth vibe of the event.

For the floral designs, designer Lee Moore Crawford of Hana Lee, took inspiration from Southern California. Incorporating dried flowers and pampas grass, succulents, and locally sourced in-season flowers. The decor was supplied in part by Erica and Lee, but many of the decor items and all of the gorgeous furniture was supplied by The Prettiest Pieces.

Congrats to Ashely & Nick on three wonderful years of marriage!
